Nate Boyce works across sculpture, animation, and music. His work focuses on formal refinement and expressivity, employing digital tools to aggressively combine divergent types of sculptural and pictorial space. His formal intuition emerges from a close examination and absorption of art historical idioms which range from High Renaissance sculpture to Structuralist film. At once elegant and lacerating, the constituent elements of any given piece tend to coevolve on varying time scales where slow accretions of architectonic form intersect with fast autographic marks. In this case the piece presented, “Caylx” insinuates both a vegetal growth becoming an ornamental idealization of itself, and the structural fusion of a vessel and what it contains.
